Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto brought the first-ever retrospective devoted to the work of Gabrielle Chanel to China, at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai from July to November 2024. After stops in Melbourne, Tokyo, and London, the exhibition found its most ambitious iteration yet — over 200 archival pieces spanning fashion, accessories, beauty, and high jewelry, unfolding across ten immersive sections. A scenography designed in collaboration with New York studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Chinese graphic designer Jumping He grounded the work in its Shanghai context. Less a biography than a testament — the vision of a woman who rewrote what clothing could mean.
